Yes... and I am referencing the writer, Eric, not Tony, the ex-Prime Minister. Eric was really the one skewering politics in (one of) his dystopian novel(s), 1984, under his pen name George Orwell.
Blair's protagonist, Winston Smith, is meant to keep the Proles down through disinformation and what we might now call a variant of edutainment. ...And the TV was a two-window allowing access into the Proles' world...
Though Bolshie, Eric's circle certainly included Tory Lords...

We didn't have a television in our home until I was a teen. My dad still curses one every chance he gets, but once interested in something on it, you can't tear him away. It does cast a spell in one way or another, as you put it- Wizardry.

I love references to 1984.
My version of the 3WW is to follow a theme that you put down. Words + haiku + theme(a la Sepiru Chris). I was tempted to allude to Brave New World(futuristic writing theme?) but thought better of it given that it'd be too close to 1984 in my mind. Instead I took the theme to be something along the lines of 'state control'. Specifically, the Russian oligarchy.

(You have not had TV for a decade?! An earthling friend of mine was also without TV for a decade - and the licensing authorities just could not believe it! Whole forests must have been wiped out by the amount of letters this beleaguered human was sent!)

especially liked the last haiku! and, is george orwell really a pen name?? i didn't know that! he is my favorite author (or at least book, 1984.. but Shooting an Elephant was also a great read)

Thanks Raph. I like your lexicon of G, too. Movies in the cinema or off the computer, but no TV. It allows so much more time for everything else. As a Canadian, all that correspondence is good for the economy. And the environment too. Wood locks up carbon--which is not released if not burned or otherwise broken down. And the nutrients are in the leaves, which are left behind where the tree are felled...

Hi there, like the way you wangled the Haiku and the American sentence, but to make the first title work you probably need to capitalise a.k.a. to get the syllable count right.
tv is watching you... scary... definitely a generation has been raised in front of the tube watching who knows what...
